Sofía Matus Cancino

Sofía Matus Cancino is a Mexican composer whose work explores the convergence of visual music, embodied sound, and algorithmic composition. She holds a Master’s degree in Music Technology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She is a former member and facilitator of the INTAC network (International Art Collaborations) in Mexico, where she worked with artists and institutions from Finland, Canada, and Japan. Her music and audiovisual work have been featured at festivals such as SEAMUS, Visiones Sonoras, SPLICE, NodoCCS, CCMC, and PRISMS. Ensembles including Bent Frequency (USA), Arizona Contemporary Music Ensemble (USA), and Ensemble FEC (MX) have performed her compositions. She has studied with Rodrigo Sigal, Fernanda Navarro, Hugo Solís, João Pedro Oliveira, and Gabriel Bolaños. Her artistic research has received awards from Arizona State University, the Ministry of Culture of the State of Mexico, and, most recently, the 2025 Data Sonification Award. She is currently a doctoral candidate and Presidential Graduate Assistant at ASU.
