“Rekindle”: Interaction, Mimesis and AI

Interaction and mimesis. Both are topics that we constantly encounter in everyday life or use during a learning process. In the context of audio scores, I would like to share my own experiences and shed light on peripheral areas that, in the best case, stimulate discussions and reflections on real-time scores. I would like to start with Michel van der Aa’s work “Rekindle” (2010), whose soundtrack (audio score) is not entirely perceptible auditory, but in my opinion nevertheless contains qualities that, from the recipient’s point of view, can also occur in real time scores. I then take a leap into the present and raise questions such as: Is AI really creating something new, or is it just accessing existing data and imitating us? What does this mean for music? Is imitation on the part of AI during a performance a form of interaction with humans?
